It turned out to be multiple shorts causing sensor errors. The dealer charged me $990 to fix and it required the intake manifold to be removed and who knows how many spliced wires to track down the mystery short.... I typically roll the wheels off my car; but this one is a time bomb with that sort of electrical repair.
At 62k miles the AC condenser went out - in the middle of summer. This is an unheard of failure on a 2 year old car, regardless of mileage. A quick google search located an extended warranty program ( to 600000 miles) and a pending class action lawsuit. The dealer wanted $2100 for the repair. Fortunately I pushed back and the dealer was persuasive in getting GM to cover the repair, given my experience with this car.
It was probably helpful that all scheduled service was done at GM dealers.
Unless your power hungry, the motor supplied with the premier trim package is great. The transmission, however, leaves a lot to be desired. It’s mushy.... drive a GMC variant and you’ll see what I mean.
I love adaptive cruise control and parts of it work well on this car. Unfortunately, automatically resuming speed once slower traffic is clear is a hair raising experience. In the event you need to pick up 10mph or more, the system drops the hammer like a scene from days of thunder. Please, send your engineers back to school for this feature.
Lane keep assist on this vehicle is just as likely to kill you as save you. It should not be counted on as a safety feature in this vehicle.
Overall, nice to look at and offers a comfortable ride. Ownership and features experience are well below par for a $70k+ vehicle. If you buy one used, make sure the condenser has been replaced, because it WILL fail. And... with the number of wires hacked into, better hope you don’t end up with mine. It’ll be hitting the market soon!
If you have the means, you might consider a newer version of this vehicle if it has an 8 or 9 speed transmission and the adaptive cruise control issues are worked out.... I really wanted to like this car, but GM hosed me on out of warranty failures that were clearly manufacturing issues.
